Member participation
Member of the KVNR
The strength of an association is largely determined by the active involvement of its members. The KVNR is therefore deeply committed to engaging a diverse range of member groups, with the strategic direction shaped by the association's board. Within the KVNR, members are encouraged to participate in various groups, not only to exchange knowledge but also to assist the organization in developing positions, actions, and initiatives. For instance, members have the opportunity to join a KVNR committee or working group to contribute to discussions and help shape the association’s stance on specific policy areas.
Committees and working groups
The KVNR's working organization serves as the association's voice to the outside world. This voice is shaped through consultations with members across various member groups, as outlined below. Networking is another vital element of the association; KVNR-affiliated shipowners gather at KVNR meetings, among other events. The General Meeting (AGM), the highest decision-making body of the association, takes place twice a year. In voting situations, the weight of a member’s vote is determined by the size of their fleet.
Additionally, the KVNR includes associate members who do not own ships but have a maritime focus. These associate members are interested in being part of the shipowners' community and, in turn, bring valuable expertise to the association. Associate members may include training institutes, law firms, insurers, banks, and educational institutions. While they can participate in member meetings, they do not have voting rights.
Moreover, the KVNR’s network extends beyond its members. As a primary point of contact for organizations that consider the Dutch shipping industry an important stakeholder, the KVNR plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the broader shipping industry. Its various networking meetings, knowledge workshops, and other events often attract representatives from other industry associations, government bodies, and more.
Comittees
The KVNR has three committees, each focusing on different topics, providing our members with the opportunity to influence KVNR policy. These committees formulate positions for the KVNR, offer both solicited and unsolicited advice to the board, and elaborate on decisions made by the board. Each committee is led by a representative from a KVNR member.
Committee meetings are typically held at the KVNR office, although they may occasionally take place at other locations across the country, including the premises of member companies.
For specific topics, committees may invite external experts to participate as guests in their meetings. All KVNR members are welcome to join committee meetings at any time.

Committee on Labour Affairs (CAZ)
The Committee on Maritime Policy, Economic and Legal Affairs (CEZ)
The Committee on Safety and Environment (CVM)
The Committee on Strategic Communication (CSC)
Working groups
The committees can establish (temporary) working groups, typically formed to collaborate with members for whom a particular topic is a high priority. These groups allow for in-depth analysis of specific issues and provide recommendations to the committees.
Working groups usually comprise specialists from (associate) members and are chaired by a member of the committee that initiated the group.
