Update - 7 Oktober 2025

The KVNR is deeply shocked by the news that a crew member of the Dutch ship Minervagracht has died. The ship was attacked in the Gulf of Aden at the end of September, with the Houthis later claiming responsibility for the attack. Several crew members were injured in the attack in international waters. Unfortunately, one of them did not survive, according to the shipping company.

Our thoughts are with the family, colleagues and other loved ones of the deceased seafarer. It is unacceptable that this man has fallen victim to the Houthi attack, a flagrant violation of international law.

Seafarers play a crucial role in keeping global trade running and transporting essential goods for people and businesses around the world. They deserve to be able to carry out their profession in civil shipping safely.

The KVNR will continue to work with its partners to ensure the safety of seafarers, wherever in the world they may be on board a ship.

MV Minervagracht under fire in Gulf of Aden

The ship MV Minervagracht of the Amsterdam-based shipping company Spliethoff fell victim to an attack in the Gulf of Aden in international waters on September 29, 2025.

The Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) condemns this attack in the strongest possible terms.

This attack on the Dutch-flagged sea vessel is an unacceptable violation of the right to free and safe passage.

The KVNR expresses its sympathy to the crew members, their loved ones, and the shipping company.
