Motion Chris Stoffer (SGP)

Two years ago, the House of Representatives passed a motion by Chris Stoffer (SGP) calling on the government to bring offshore fully under the tonnage tax regime and the remittance reduction for maritime shipping. This is a long-held wish of Dutch shipowners, who face a fiscal disadvantage in the Netherlands compared to foreign competitors.

By implementing the Stoffer motion, the Netherlands would join an international level playing field for the offshore sector. Yet, two years after the adopted motion, shipowners are still waiting for the actual implementation

Priority KVNR
“The tonnage tax scheme and remittance reduction maritime shipping are essential for having a maritime sector in the Netherlands. The Netherlands must restore the global fiscal level playing field by including offshore ships.“

Chris Stoffer increases political pressure

Fortunately, the SGP remains committed to making this motion a reality. This became clear again today during the two-minute Maritime debate in the Lower House.

There, Chris Stoffer asked for an update on the progress of the implementation of the motion. Hopefully, this political pressure will ensure a quick entry into force!
